Modern Knights: Portraits of Combat is celebrating and bringing attention to the world of Armoured Combat. A group of individuals who dress in medieval wear and armour to then compete in duels and tournaments with one another. However, this is not a reenactment; this is real fighting.
Medieval influences with modern techniques have been used to create these final pieces, from how the portraits would have been lit, the textures in the paper used and the posing of the athletes.
This project marks the beginning of exploring how historical influences can be used and reimagined through modern athletic identities, Future entries will expand the portrait series and investigate the evolving culture of Armoured Combat with the potential to look at team identities, training environments and the personal stories of the athletes behind the armour. My goal is to elevate this unknown community and deepen public understanding of the sport.
